Nicolò Rocca leaves Brands Hatch on P3 in the championship
The third and fourth round of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series took place last weekend on the iconic British track at Brands Hatch. The DF1-Tigers showed a good performance, best of all the Italian driver of the #22, Niccolò Rocca.
After P3 in the qualifying for the first round, Nicolò Rocca in the DF1 Grapos Camaro was able to keep Sebastiaan Bleekemolen behind him at the start of the first race and finished the race on P3 on the prodium.
"The weekend started pretty well. In the second half of the race I was struggling a bit and had to fight hard to defend my position, but I managed to jump on the podium, which is always a good start into a raceweekend", Rocca said. "That's why, together with my mechanics, I decided to try a more aggressive setup for the race on Sunday. Unfortunately it didn't bring us the success we were hoping for." In the second race Rocca crossed the finish line on P8.
EuroNASCAR-returnee Alexander Graff showed an impressive performance in both races. With the fifth best time in race 1, he secured himself a good position for the second race. Unfortunately, the Swedish driver was pushed at the start of the race and spun out. He had to restart the race from the back of the field. He had to fight his way back through the field on a track, on which it is nearly impossible to overtake. In the end, he finished the race on P9.
The weekend in Brands Hatch was a very successful one for Henri Tuomaaala. Henri finished both races on P1 in the Challenger Trophy. "These victories are a success we achieved as a team, together with my spotter Ville Heljälä and my mechanics. Thanks to this great work, we are now on P3 in the overall standings of the Challenger Trophy."
For Marc Goossens in the DF1 LettnerTrans Camaro 77 it was a mixed weekend. He found himself in the Top 10 in both races, in the second race he crossed the finish line on P8, but due to a penalty he has benn moved down to P16 in the final results.
Norbert Walchhofer, Head of Motorsport of DF1 Racing: “We are extremely satisfied with this weekend. Nicolò Rocca is still in a good position to win the title, Henri Tuomaala had a great performance with two victories and is now back in the title race of the Challenger Trophy. Marc's results are not yet the results we are aiming for. But the mechanics are working hard with him to change the settings on the car, so that it works best with his driving style and to finally achieve the results both we and Marc are aiming for. Next week we will go to Most next week for a test day to put in practice the ambitions of our drivers and the team to be able to fight for the title in all divisions and trophies."
The next race of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will take place on August 28 and 29 at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic.
