EuroNASCAR Finals 2019: Austrian team DF1 Racing wins three titles!

The team grabs the European NASCAR Elite2 title, the Rookie Trophy and the Elite Club championship

Missing the season opener at Valencia, the Dane Lasse Soerensen showed an impressive performance since his first start at Franciacorta. Seven wins in eleven starts: The Dane impressed with his fighting spirit and his race intelligence, that brought him win after win.

The championship was not decided until the last corner of Sunday's final race at Circuit Zolder. Due to Soerensen late entry in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series there was an intense battle between him and Giorgio Maggi. This duel characterized the 2019 season in joy of all fans. The championship was decided at the last meters of the season and that's why the driver was crowned Elite2 and Rookie Trophy champion, who had crossed the finish line first.

In the end, Soerensen grabbed both titles after a great start into the final race. The DF1 Racing driver took over the lead on a damp track caused by several rain showers. He fended off all attacks by Maggi to win the championship ahead of the Hendriks Motorsport driver with a gap of nine points.

For the fist time in history of the European NASCAR series, a rookie won the overall championship.

“It’s awesome to be here, we fought for this the whole season long,” said Soerensen, who debuted in the NWES only in the second event of the year at Franciacorta. “We took over the lead of the championship in the last race. I thank my team dexwet-df1 Racing and all my sponsors – especially flexlease.nu – for the hard work they put in this year. I’m super happy right now.”

Alain Mosqueron, who had entered the Zolder Finals in second place, grabbed the Elite Club Division title already on Thursday, celebrating his victory with hundreds of fans at the traditional Zolder parade. The French overtook Giovanni Trione in the very last session of the 2019 season to win the championship. Over the year, Mosqueron was the most consistent driver on the grid of the Elite Club Division.

“It’s an amazing feeling to win the championship here at Zolder. There was an eight-point gap between me and Giovanni before this event. I gave my best to overcome that margin and I was successful. Thanks to my team dexwet-df1 Racing, who made this possible,” said the new Elite Club Division champion. “Next year my plan is to defend the Elite Club Division title, but my dream is to step up to the Elite2 Division. Maybe this dream will come true.”

NWES veteran Justin Kunz finished on a solid ninth place in his fourth Elite2 Division championship. The German race driver from Appenweier experienced a rollercoaster of emotions during the 2019 NWES season but never gave up to score his third consecutive overall top-10 result in the Elite2 Division, what makes him one of the most consistent drivers in this championship.

Guillaume Deflandre brought home his first top-10 finish in the first Elite1 Division final at Circuit Zolder, completing two very strong events in NWES' top division.

Dexwet-DF1 motorsport boss Norbert Walchhofer sums up the year 2019: "A fantastic season has come to an end and I'd like to thank all our supporters, especially our awesome mechanics, sponsors, partners and of course our active drivers. Yesterday is today and today is tomorrow. Despite the celebrations we've already started to make plans for 2020 today. We know, that it will not be easy to have the same success like this year or to even top the achievements of 2019."
