DF1 Racing signs three-time champion Ander Vilarino

The Austrians team up with the Spaniard to win the EuroNASCAR PRO championship

It's the first silly season highlight of 2020: Ander Vilarino will race for DF1 Racing from Austria in the 2020 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) EuroNASCAR PRO championship. The three-time NWES champion signed a contract for the 2020 EuroNASCAR season after he had visited the DF1 base. The new DF1 Racing Tiger has one goal: the title!

Vilarino is the most successful driver in NWES history. The Spaniard grabbed three titles and scored 22 race wins. In his comeback year 2019, he shone in front of his home crowd by winning both races in Spain. In the 2020 season he will be at the wheel of the #22 Chevrolet Camaro.

The Hondarribia native race driver wants to get back on top of the EuroNASCAR PRO championship and win the title by teaming up with DF1 Racing. This could put him back to P1 in the overall history ranking because no driver has four NWES titles under his belt. Right now he's tied with Anthony Kumpen.

DF1 Racing proved to have championship material. In the last season the Austrians won the EuroNASCAR 2 championship (former Elite2) with Lasse Soerensen at the wheel of the Chevrolet. The team is ready to make the next step and to fight for the NWES title.

DF1 motorsport boss Norbert Walchhofer is happy about signing the Spaniard: "There is no team that wouldn't be happy if the three-time NWES champion signs a contract. Ander visited our workshop for two days to take a look at the base and the work that has been done here. He signed the contract for the 2020 season right afterwards, with an option for 2021. Ander is a top driver and together we have the chance to win the EuroNASCAR title. With his NWES experience, he will give the team a boost and help the young drivers. We will give our best and help Ander to win his fourth title."

“I am really happy and thankful for the trust Norbert and Gudrun Strouhal (DF1 Racing owner, ndr) have in me. I’ll do everything I can to bring good results and contribute to put the best car on the grid. I also look forward to working together with the other DF1 Racing EuroNASCAR PRO drivers and support the EuroNASCAR 2 and EuroNASCAR Club drivers,” said the Hondarribia native, who boasts 22 wins in the top NWES championship, including two at his home track of Valencia in 2019. “Everybody at DF1 Racing is really motivated to win the title and this motivation is not only contagious, it also perfectly matches mine. They are professional but also a family-run team and that is something I love. I believe we can do really good things together.”

The 2020 NWES season kicks off on April 25-26 in Valencia, Spain, so Vilarino will have his home race right at the beginning of the season. Last year, he dominated the races in front of his home crowd with two strong wins.

"The 2020 championship will be very interesting for me, as I'm racing in the same class but now I know three of the four tracks we will race on. This is a great opportunity to evaluate my skills as I can compare the data from this and last season. Now I am really looking forward to the 2020 championship and I wish all other drivers, mechanics, the rest of the DF1 Racing team and all NASCAR fans a merry Christmas and a happy new year."
